The thing about cylinder 3
On the 5.0 V8, starting from the 2018 model year, cylinder 3 uses a different ignition coil than the other seven. The design and part number differ; the difference is barely noticeable on the shelf — but very obvious when plugging it in. Anyone who orders a set of eight ends up with seven matching coils and one wrong one. That is why we stock both versions separately: the ignition coil for cylinders 1, 2, and 4 through 8 and the ignition coil for cylinder 3.
How to recognize a faulty coil
Jerking under load, rough idling, misfires in the error memory — usually specifying the cylinder, which saves the guesswork. If one fails and the others have the same mileage, many people replace the entire set at once.
What else regularly comes up on the 5.0
The water pump announces itself via coolant loss at the weep hole, a grinding noise from the belt drive, or play in the pulley; the sealing ring is included. The oil filter requires the anti-drainback valve to ensure immediate pressure upon startup, thread M22 × 1.5. The front wheel bearing comes as a complete module with hub — which saves having to press it out.
The rest is available upon request
What we stock in the shop is deliberately limited: for the Mustang, almost every inquiry is unique. Catalytic converters, AC compressors, driveshafts, parts for early model years — we procure these piece by piece. Send us your VIN and, if available, the number from the old part: Request parts by VIN.
