Installation & Notes

As always, when changing the filter: the engine should not be hot, let the old oil drain out beforehand, and loosen the old filter with the appropriate filter wrench (spin-on filters are often surprisingly tight). Before attaching the new filter, coat the sealing ring thinly with fresh oil – this prevents the sealing ring from twisting or tearing when tightened and makes the next change easier. Tighten by hand until the sealing ring makes contact, then tighten another three-quarters to a full turn – do not use the filter wrench to crank it down brutally tight. After the oil change, let the engine run briefly, check for leaks at the filter, and then check the oil level.
