Timing chain kit

Overview

The rattling noise during a cold start, familiar to many F-150 drivers with the 3.5L EcoBoost V6, almost always comes from the cam phasers and a stretched timing chain. This complete kit restores the engine to factory condition in a single job: timing chain with guide rails, chain tensioner, and crankshaft sprocket; cam phasers for intake and exhaust sides; plus all relevant gaskets for valve covers, front cover, and thermostat housing. In addition, there is a water pump, six spark plugs, new phaser bolts, and filters for the subsequent oil change. Anyone opening the front cover on a 3.5L EcoBoost won't want to do it all over again two months later due to a leaking water pump – which is why it is included here.

• Complete timing chain kit: 2 timing chains, 4 guide rails and dampers, 2 chain tensioners, crankshaft sprocket
• 4 Cam phasers – intake and exhaust for both cylinder banks
• 4 new central bolts for the phasers
• Water pump with gasket – replace it while the front cover is open

Installation & Notes

This is not a task for a first-time weekend mechanic. The front cover, cam phasers, and timing chain on the 3.5L EcoBoost are time-critical components – without proper timing alignment tools according to manufacturer specifications, you will misalign the camshafts, and the engine will run worse than before.
